Want to be sure that everyone knows we will not be here this Sunday. Not that we are all especially observant but we have found customers just don't come by that day. So I am off to spend the day with my 91 year old lapsed Episcopalian Mother. Have a great day. Oh yes we have opened the back $1 garage for the season. It's messy but full of new arrivals. Come check it out. Til later.

Several large lots of books have been coming in. One lot, 15 boxes+ strong, is all theology, religion, philosophy and some literature and poetry. All in nice condition though in many of his books the previous owner wrote his name. Here are a few photos of some of the poetry in softcover. All these are under $10. Above is Seamus Heany's: BEOWULF. $6.50 (case # 32) Then John Updike's COLLECTED POEMS. $8.00 (case # 31). (I must admit I did not know this famous American author wrote poetry..) Here is an oversized soft cover edition of Robert W. Service's BEST TALES OF THE YUKON. $6.00 (case # 31) We always have some of the early hardcover Robert Service in stock if you like those nice vintage ones. It's a quiet Sunday and St. Patrick's Day and I think everyone is at the parade in Holyoke. Supposedly the nation's 2nd largest one....where is the largest? So on this slow day at the bookstore I finally get to the blog after a long lapse. And I am experimenting with putting more photos on this page so bear with me. What follows are some titles in religion and theology that have recently arrived. We have a small and popular section of C.S. Lewis besides these: GOD IN THE DOCK $6.00 and A GRIEF OBSERVED(hardcover) $7.50 (both in case #73) Here is a great present for someone: THE BOOK OF HEAVEN.. An Anthology of Writings From Ancient to Modern Times. $7.50 (Case # 74) I see I have to work more on sizing these photos correctly. Back to the drawing board. In the Library of America Series we have: AMERICAN SERMONS. The Pilgrims to Martin Luther King Jr. $10 (case # 74) It's getting busy at the store. Several parties have come in, in the last 20 minutes. The parade must have finished. Love these light later afternoons. Soon it is time to go back to helping customers. The last book shown is one of the more scholarly new arrivals: VISUAL PIETY. A History and Theory of Popular Religious Images by David Morgan $10 (case # 74) It's closing time, 5 pm and there are still 5 cars in the parking lot. I won't be closing on time tonight...but that's okay with me. On my third listening of the Nitty Gritty which is good company! |
