The $1.00 Book Garage Annex is now open! Still a bit messy but many deals within. I am waiting til a slightly warmer day to spend some time tidying it up. Many boxes of books put in there since we closed it earlier in the winter.
I am just back from a refreshing 7 days away visiting with my husband's family up in northern Maine. Ever heard of New Sweden? A small town (500 miles north!) just above Caribou and Presque Isle far up in Aroostook county (or as they say up there "The County") and where there is still a couple of feet of snow. We played several games of MONOPOLY with our 10 year old grandson, got to watch him compete in a school wrestling match, did some snow shoeing in fields and woods, played umpteen games of SCRABBLE with brother and sister in laws, and shopped some deals at the LL Bean annex on the way south! A very convivial time. As one who works at home a lot, any get a way is great!
No time for booking on this trip though we did buy and pick up a huge collection (approx 10,000) of old post cards on the way up and started working on them. All kind of subjects with a nice amount from Wisconsin and the mid-west where the deceased collector was from. We had been negotiating with the family for a year and a half so it's nice to finally get them in hand. Many will slowly go into stock at the store here. Some will be ready for sale at THE 20TH ANNUAL GREENFIELD, MASS. POST CARD SHOW & SALE on APRIL 9th, 9:30-3:30 pm at the First Congregational Church on Silver Lane (just off Rte. 5) in Greenfield, Mass. Come on down!
A busy Wednesday today, people-wise, though not too many books going out the door. Several new customers who can't wait to return when they have more time, a familiar refrain. And most do come back! A man looking for some books from his childhood in the 1950's and 60's to show to his children. Little Black Sambo and The Journals of Christopher Columbus are favorites he remembered. A few good mysteries went out "to be left in the car" til needed says the gentleman. A chess book and others I can't remember...
Just talked to a customer who owed us an email and he also was straight out busy for a few weeks getting his taxes ready for the accountant. At least for us here at the WABC, Appointment #1 has been completed and only one other appointment remains at the end of the month! Hallelujah! Now just two book appraisals to complete and that will clear up some deadlines.
Time to straighten up a bit, pay bills and help a woman find some Memoirs in the biography sections? Happy reading!
