Did you hear that new Amazon statistics that was on the news this morning? A customer just reminded me of it. This month (or was it quarter?) Amazon sold more E-books on-line than paper "old fashioned" books.UGH! Nothing against Amazon in general but what a discouraging statistic for the book world. How can we help this business of selling books at a store co-exist (perhaps thrive?) with the e-world? Must be some ways out there.
But business today at ye olde bookstore was constant as people came out of the woodwork (over the puddles?) and bought books today. One favorite couple from central Mass carted away 4 large boxes of $1 books, while others selected some treasures from the $1 garage and inside the store. A set of Civil War books went out, as did some nautical and horse and dog stories. Mysteries hard and soft cover. And many carefully selected old post cards. Fun to give the old Birthday post cards to someone who treasures old things. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas we have folks selecting cards to send out for those holidays. A little erasing or covering the back with thin paper and you have a clean card again!
Time to close up, grab a bite to eat at the delicious food bar at River Valley Market and walk Fred on this lovely warm evening. Maybe I'll talk over the week with him and muse about what that Amazon statistic means. I think he likes to hear the sound of my voice as he sniffs and marks every tree, shrub and bench we encounter!
