Saturday at the Whately Book Center. Hmmm... A nice relaxed pace with many people here for the first time, having been drawn in by our "BOOKS & MORE BOOKS" sign on I-91. A gentleman is shuffling through the Virginia post cards. Consignor John Renjilian (POY) from Connecticut is restocking his book case #43. A young man just asked if we had any comic books and I showed him a small pile. And I've just opened the $1 garage around the side of the building and restocked it with three boxes of newish mystery/suspense/detective fiction in soft and hard cover. Several of Lilian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who... series and many others.
If our Fall Sale earlier this month was any indication, readers are alive and well in western Massachusett's Pioneer Valley. Especially when there is a deal to be had. A great 6 days of selling. Such eclectic and interesting piles of books were brought up here to check out. A fun Saturday evening soiree with many folks coming for the food and drink from 5-8 pm. There is something very special in sipping wine while perusing the book cases. Some dealers have extended their sales so come and check it out. Especially if you like quality 20th century nautical books as dealer Walt Wiegand (WWCO) of cases # 38 & 39 will be 50% off through the end of the month. And Brian DiMambro of Dover, NH (BDZ &DTT) with three cases (18, 19, 42), has just put on a 40-50% off sale on his very interesting collection of books.
It's getting a little too busy to write any more so off I go to point this man towards the technical books downstairs. Long live brick and mortar!
